I’m very interested in how AI tools will alter how the publishing industry operates. From approaches to authorship and editing, to streamlining and optimisation tools, to marketing and analysing data, I believe that it will change the industry. And, as long as the industry as a whole moves towards the integration of AI tools in a way that keeps in mind the ‘specific rationalities’ instead of large, sweeping ones, it can be beneficial. That being said, even though this small presentation (a re-vamp of one I did on a panel about AI and the Creative Industries for the Festival of AI at Oxford Brookes) shows some of the fun ways AI is being used in publishing already, we must keep in our mind the power dynamics these new technologies usher in and the ethical implications tied up within them.

So, have a watch – each slide has a short voice over, sometimes the transitions are abrupt, I think the dog barks at some point, and I definitely did not tell the truth about the length in slide 1. So bear with me. I’ve not managed to make the AI edit my recordings…yet. And as always, get in touch if you want to talk more about AI in the Publishing industry.
